Overview
The Nintendo GameCube (ニンテンドーゲームキューブ), officially abbreviated as GCN in the West and NGC in Japan, is Nintendo's fifth home video game console and part of the sixth generation of gaming.
It was the first Nintendo system to use optical discs, utilizing proprietary miniDVDs. Unlike competitors like the 2, Dreamcast, and Xbox, the GameCube does not support DVD or CD playback.
GameCube also introduced improved connectivity, including official online functionality via the Broadband and Modem Adapters, and interaction with the Game Boy Advance through select titles and the Game Boy Player.
The system sold 21.74 million units globally and was succeeded by the Wii in 2006.
